Questions people ask
Who is Penny?
Software, not a person. Penny is the name for the check, the questions, the verdict and the scope of works. She follows the rules on our methodology page, she is paid the same whether you build or not, and she will tell you not to build things.
Do you hold the money for the job?
No. You pay your builder directly, on whatever terms the two of you agree. Nothing you pay for the work passes through us.
Will you tell me not to build something?
Often. Five of the eight answers need no build at all. Most jobs stop at the verdict, which is free, and that is the point of the check.
Do I need an ABN or a business?
No. Plenty of people come here testing an idea before they start anything. The questions about staff hours and wages are skipped if they do not apply to you.
Who writes the scope of works?
Penny does, from your answers and her research. You have it within one business day, by email, as a page you can print or save as a PDF. You confirm what she understood before it is written, and you can correct facts after.
Is the price guide a quote?
No. It is built from published Australian rates for that kind of job. Builders set their own prices and may come in above or below it. You set your own budget.
What if I already have a developer?
Take the scope of works and hand it to them. It is yours. Plenty of people use it just to stop paying for discovery twice.
Do you build the work yourselves?
Sometimes. Penny is software and is not paid on the build. Media Mantra, which runs AI Builds, quotes on some jobs as a founding builder. When it does, the quote is labelled and you are free to pick anyone else.
